Our EMOSAFE Network Isolators are utilised in copper-based network connections (Ethernet) in private, public, and commercial sectors, for the protection of network-connected devices against external voltages, and to dampen unwanted low-frequency signal components. EMOSAFE Network Isolators are especially suited for application within the medical technology field, fulfilling the most stringent requirements enforced by international medical standards.
Technology
High frequency alternating current (AC) voltages are transmitted through network isolators on the principle of electromagnetic induction, across a frequency band suitable for such data transmission. Because of this principle, EMOSAFE Network Isolators require no power supply. There are no software drivers to be installed. The purpose of a network isolator is to prevent any direct electrical connection between the connected devices, while still allowing data to flow. Therefore, in addition to the data lines, the cable shielding is also electrically isolated.
Due to their passive nature, network isolators reduce the quality of the transmitted signals. Such losses in our EMOSAFE Network Isolators are so small, that their use within permanent cable installations (up to 90m) will not lead to reductions in data throughput.
Applications
• Medical applications in which patients must be protected against leakage currents. Hence the commonly used term “Medical Network Isolator”.
• Measuring and monitoring devices in electrical test facilities, connected to control centres through Ethernet interfaces.
• Redundant server systems, connected by copper cabling over distances of up to 100m.
• Audio applications requiring the reduction of low frequency AC voltages (known as “hum”) transmitted within network connections.
• In general use as a shield current filter for Ethernet connections.
Standard Conformity and Certification
All of our EMOSAFE Network Isolators meet the requirements of applicable standards and guidelines, in particular IEC 60601-1-1. Standard conformity is confirmed by a CE declaration.
Additionally, all of our EMOSAFE Network Isolators are approved by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) as Recognized Component E249126, and are therefore suitable for use in the U.S. market. Along with the UL approval, our conformity to IEC 60601-1-1 has been confirmed by an accredited independent laboratory.
Quality
EMO Systems maintains a quality management system for development and production, in accordance with ISO 9001, and is certified by TÜV Süd, Germany. Every one of our Network Isolators is subjected to a stringent quality inspection prior to delivery, including testing of the required withstand voltage.
To ensure optimal transmission quality, each of our Network Isolators is additionally checked for compliance with our high standards of important transmission parameters: insertion loss; return loss; and near-end crosstalk (NEXT).
